By Jacob Mabille | Hair Care | Unrated

Good hair care always starts with taking care of the scalp. This is the part of the head where hair grows and so it is just natural to really give it your best attention. The common problems of the scalp are oiliness and dryness. There are practical and effective methods to take care of the scalp to ensure growth of healthy hair.

Start with a healthy diet of fruits and vegetables. These are natural nutrients to provide nourishment to your body including your scalp and hair.

Know what kind of scalp you have. If it is too oily, then you have to prevent this by washing your hair with mild shampoo every other day. Remember to massage the scalp for good blood circulation. For dry scalp, it would be better if you wash your hair twice a week with lukewarm water and a good moisturizing shampoo. Gently massage your scalp so that moisturizing would be more effective.

A good way to take care of the scalp is to know the ingredients of your shampoo. Avoid those with harsh chemicals because these can harm the scalp. Make use of natural or organics ingredients that would provide more nourishment to your scalp. Make use of good moisturizers for your hair such as jojoba oil or olive oil. You can also try a shampoo with tea tree oil or a mild baby shampoo with good ph balance. Massage your scalp and hair gently with your fingertips as you shampoo Avoid the use of hot water to wash your hair. This causes dryness of your scalp. Use lukewarm water instead. Don’t over wash either. Just make sure you give your scalp and hair a good rinse after your shampoo.

Try to protect your scalp from harsh environmental factors such as heat, wind and cold. Wear hats, a scarf or use an umbrella to protect scalp. You can also use a hair treatment leave on protection on scalp and hair when exposed to sunlight. Remember to keep the blow dryer away from the scalp because the heat can damage the scalp. Use hair gels, creams, lotions and hair spray sparingly. Don’t apply these products directly on the scalp. Comb you hair with a good brush, those with soft plastic bristles will be good as well to go through your scalp like giving it a good massage to stimulate hair follicles.

Try some home hair treatments for scalp and hair such as the following:

1. Boil some beets including its roots. The water used when cooled down can be used to wash, clean and massage scalp for a few minutes. Just shampoo your hair and rinse well thereafter.

2. Try rinsing your scalp with 2 tbsp vinegar and a cup of water. Then wash, shampoo and do a final rinse with water. This prevents dandruff and itchiness of scalp.

3. A freshly cut onion is good for the scalp as its natural juices has natural nutrients to keep scalp clean and moisturized. Rub gently or massage over the scalp; then shampoo and rinse well with water.

4. Do your own home hot oil treatment by using olive oil and massaging over your scalp. Cover your head with a warm towel for about 20 minutes, then shampoo and rinse. You will feel that your scalp is fresh and clean.
