Getting a Good Night's Sleep When Having Tinnitus
By Jonathan Pitts | Tinnitus | Unrated

Tinnitus is an ear problem described as constant ringing inside the ears. This problem can be serious because a person loses valuable sleep most of the time. In lieu of this, there are recommended methods to help lessen this problem.

Those with this problem prefer turning the TV to offset tinnitus. A small electric fan near the bed and having it on while sleeping is also effective. Make sure you are tired or very exhausted when you go to sleep. You can do this by doing a lot of activities at daytime and keeping yourself busy until near your sleeping hours.

Learn how to do meditation and relaxing exercises. These would help ease out stress within the body. Do deep breathing exercises as these will relax you and would help you prop up for sleep. Try not to think. Let your mind go blank. Relax your mind; try the relaxation exercises as well.

Try to keep your bedroom very dark as much as possible. Your mindset would get used to this so you would be able to sleep easily.

Check your diet. Some researches show that too much caffeine and alcohol make tinnitus get worse. Too much spicy and too many salts in foods also affect it. So, it would be better if you cut back on these foods. You can take Ginkgo Biloba, a kind of herb that helps with good blood circulation to the brain as this was found out to be effective in lessening tinnitus.

Try to consider the use of a tinnitus masker. It is a special gadget similar to a hearing aid; it is placed inside the ear and some sounds are heard. The sounds can be some form of music, the sound of soft splashing of water or something else that would mask your tinnitus while you sleep. This masker can also be put under the pillows and can be turned off if not needed.

Since it was found out that one of the causes of tinnitus is exposure to very loud noises or environments, you may consider wearing ear protection if you have to go to similar places to prevent the worsening of this problem.

You may also consider acupuncture. The acupuncturist would place medicinal needles in the different points of your body to enhance better blood circulation. This also helps relieve stress caused by your lack of sleep.

There is also a more complicated method of laser treatment which makes use of electrical shock to treat and correct some nerve systems that cause tinnitus. However, more research has to be done before this method would be considered a safe treatment for tinnitus.

There is also the tinnitus sound therapy which makes use of a soft or low sound that the mind would get used to as the normal sound. The mind would eventually take this normal sound and mentally block out tinnitus to its minimum level. The perception of tinnitus problem would be offset by this mindset for a long period of time.
