There are many pet owners who have resorted to homemade foods, in order to avoid any health issues with their dogs. Pet owners prefer dry dog foods for their pets as it is highly cost effective, and can also be re-used several times. Dry foods can be stored up to a month without the fear of running into any health issues. Also, they are more nutritious in comparison to canned food items.
Let’s learn how one can make dry dog food within the four walls of their house.
First and foremost, we will lay our hands on a cup or warm water and 1 teaspoon of yeast. Once you have these components readily available, dissolve yeast in a cup of warm water.
Apart from the yeast and water, one will need the below mentioned food ingredients.
4 eggs
1 cup wheat germ
3 cups white flour
2 tsp. garlic powder
2 cups ground beef
2 cups powdered milk
4 cups whole wheat flour
Once you place your hands on these ingredients you are all set to go. Make a mixture of all these ingredients after you dissolve the yeast properly. Work on the ingredients until they form a shape of a thick paste. You may feel the need to add water from time to time as much as required. This is just to ensure that the paste is thick enough and formed easily.
Once you have prepared the thick paste, play the waiting game, which means wait for around half an hour. This waiting period will allow the yeast to rinse properly.
After the waiting period is over, roll the dough out on a floured surface with the help of a rolling pin. After this, simply cut the dough into small pieces with a sharp knife. Make sure that you cut them in square sizes. Once the knife work is over, place the dough pieces in the oven. The ideal temperature is 350 degree F. Under this temperature bake them for around 40 to 50 minutes. That’s it! You are all set to serve your dog with a nutritious homemade dry food. Of course, you need to allow the food to cool down before you serve them to your dog. If there is any left over, you can save it for the next feeding.
There are many different recipes for homemade dry dog food. If you notice that your dog needs a change after a couple of months, then you can grab some other recipe, instead of choosing outside processed food. Most of the food items are a cake walk to prepare.
Although dogs may eat anything and everything, you need to make sure that the food you prepare is liked by them.
