Planting the right kind of plants as a source of hummingbird food for them is a great way to invite these hummingbirds to your home or garden. Flowers like impatiens, phlox and honeysuckle are the ones to choose from. Having these plantations is one way to go about attracting these birds.
You can also prepare the nectar from home, if you know the correct recipe. There is no need to get bewildered, hummingbird nectar is very easy to prepare. Yes, it’s as easy as preparing a cup of tea. Start with 4 cups of heated water and a cup of sugar. Boil it over and stir the sugar in the boiled water, until it completely dissolves. Place this mixture in the refrigerator overnight, and the next morning you have your hummingbird food ready to be served.
That’s how easy it is to prepare a hummingbird food. Use a hummingbird feeder and hang it outside your window, and enjoy being a host for these lovely birds. Make sure to change the nectar frequently, and replace them with fresh nectar every week or so. Also, any unused food can be stored up to 2 weeks in the refrigerator for serving them again. This will save you the time required to prepare the hummingbird food for the next occasion.
There are different types of hummingbird feeders out there in the market. Buy one which allows enough space for the hummingbirds to rest near the feeder. Also, consider those feeders which have insect trap within it, so that the hummingbirds can quench their thirst as well as hunger when it comes to your place. That makes you a perfect host for these birds!
One needs to make sure that they do not use pesticides in their hummingbird garden as this can kill or make them sick upon consumption. As a matter of fact, these pests which you intend to kill can be a good source of nutrients for hummingbirds. Now, that’s hitting two targets with one stone.
Also, hummingbirds are attracted towards red color. Having a feeder or plants of that color in your garden or home will set the right first impression for these birds.
