Reasons for Dog Aggression

As a dog owner you might have encountered the dark aggressive side of your pet. Although this instance might have been occasional, it’s always risky to deal with such situation, especially if you own a larger and powerful breed of animal. Dog aggression can erupt due to several situations and conditions. It could be some health issue, or for that matters bad mood.

Let’s have a look at the prime reasons of dog aggression.

Fear

It’s common for dogs to respond aggressively when they experience fear. That’s one of the ways they find to best to adapt during a fearful situation. As a pet owner, one will need to monitor their pets closely to understand what causes fear in them. Some pet owners tie their pet for too long without realizing that restricting their freedom can leave them into an aggressive state of mind. One can’t defy the fact that aggression amongst dogs can lead to fatal consequences. As a pet owner, you need to do everything in your power to avoid such a situation.

Physical Force

If you try to be physical with your dog, then most likely it will get aggressive and respond in a similar manner. Dogs do not like to be ill-treated, and they might get aggressive upon encountering such a situation. Remember, the dog can’t sue you, but it can certainly harm you. Exerting physical force is a mistake which you wouldn’t want to commit with any of your pets.

Protection

Dogs are known to be a loyal creature, and they have this thing set up in their mind that they need to protect a particular place, area or member. It’s natural for them to protect their owners and family members from outsiders. The dog will try to protect everything and anything it perceives to be its own. Any outside trying to encroach in that area or object can lead them into an aggressive state of mind. On some occasions, they might go overboard and even bite your neighbors trying to enter the house. It’s important to train the dogs in order to avoid such drastic instances.

Health Issues

Certain health problems can leave your dog into an aggressive state of mind which is why it’s important to consult a veterinarian for regular check. Unhealthy dogs lack interest in life, and they might get irritated very quickly, eventually getting aggressive as well. Any kind of accident or physical injury can also cause aggression in them. Such ailments should be treated as soon as possible.

It takes time and effort to understand the real causes of dog aggression. Since they can’t talk like us, aggression might be a way of communication for them to convey their thoughts. Despite the cause and reason, it has to be controlled to avoid unwanted situations. There are several ways by which can avoid dog aggression. Socializing your dog, exposing them to good surrounding, being kind to them are some of the ways by which one can avoid dog aggression to a great extent.
