Phlebitis or most commonly called inflammation of the veins is caused by a blood clot in the veins. It usually happens in leg veins, but don’t be so sure, it can also happen in your arms. The thrombus in the veins causes pain and irritation and usually blocks the flow of blood that causes the blood from clotting. There are different kinds of vein inflammation which you should be aware. Although superficial phlebitis can be because of injury but most likely, you are okay and there’s nothing to worry about in this particular case. These can be some of the risk that puts you to have vein inflammation:
• Being inactive for a long period of time – staying in bed or sitting for one position only like in the case of traveling or lying down, may cause the blood to clot and won’t be able to flow properly.
• Having an inactive lifestyle – if you don’t have enough exercise, you are prone to blood clotting.
• The upper part of your body may be too heavy for your lower extremities to carry.
• Smoking and other vices.
• Medical conditions such as cancer may also be a risk factor.
• Injury can be another reason.
• Contraceptive pills can also be another reason.
• Hormonal replacement therapy is also a risk factor.
• Pregnancy can also cause inflammation of the veins.
• Lupus can also result in inflammation of the veins.
• Bacteria such as pathogens and other micro organisms.
• Usually, it runs in the family. Genes contributes a big factor.
• Medications such as anti depressant drug.
You should be aware with this kind of inflammation, as this can mostly happen in the leg, it can travel up through the lungs. It can cause pulmonary embolism which can be fatal to someone who has it. There have been recorded cases of people who suffer from vein inflammation, and they have experienced the following symptoms:
• Redness of the affected skin.
• Very strong pain on the affected area can be another dilemma.
• Extreme pain.
• Swelling or edema.
• Cordlike formation of the veins.
Inflammation can be because of numerous reasons, if you want to know the reason behind yours, you need to visit your doctor to have a rigid test on what’s really happening to your body and to your veins. It can be a misconception that a massage can heal the painful part of your leg. You should take precaution in acquiring for a massage.
Since this is due to vein inflammation, you shouldn’t let anyone go over a hard massage through the affected are, it can cause more clot and breaking of the veins. This can lead to fatality. Consulting your doctor can be the best way to ease the pain you are suffering, although there are non-prescription drugs you can take to lessen the pain, you cannot just rely on them because they don’t address to the root of the problem.

I had this symptom and this imformation is very helpful . I also have Lupus so now to call my doctor and get it checked out... Thank you...
