How to Introduce a New Kitten to Your Cat
By Mark Perry | Pet Related | Unrated

Cats are known to be very territorial and do not accept other animals or even a newbie cat or kitten. A proper introduction of new kitten into your old pet cat is very important for them to accept the newcomer in a nice and pleasant way. If this introduction is done correctly, they can easily cope up and accept new cat into the family. If you are going to introduce a new kitten you should do it during the initial stage. By doing this, you and your kitten will have a more peaceful relationship towards each other.

At first, you have to keep in mind that domestic tranquility between the new and old cat will not happen in an instant. It will definitely take time and more patience in doing it. One of the most ideal approaches is as your friend to carry your new kitten in your home. This will make sure that no fuss of the new cat will be seen.

The new kitten should be place in a separate room away from the old cat. The new kitten will live on its own for a short period of time to prevent rivalry. A nice and comfortable room should be created for the new cat that should contain a warm sleeping place, water cup, feeding plate, a toy, and a scratching station. Do not attempt to put the new and your old cat together.

In this way, you can bring your new cat into the territory of your old cat without any hassle. The best option is to occupy a single room in order for the old cat to know that there is another new cat in his territory. Your old cat will easily smell the scent of your new cat even in closed door. You have to be ready for little tantrums like hissing and crying because your cat is trying to asserts itself to the new cat.

Do not forget that the new kitten may also feel very uncomfortable knowing that there is another cat around the house. You need to be extra patient to have a successful result. Equal love and understanding is needed by both cats.

The next thing to do is to swap the cat’s environment for some time. You need some extra help by doing this swapping. Assign a friend who will carry the new cat into a much bigger environment and the other into the new cat’s small room. Let them stay with their new environment for a couple of days.

The period of integration process may take a few days or weeks depending on their improvement. You will sense that everything is in control when the tension is settled and the acceptance is slowly taking place.

Before you introduce both cats personally, you have to first let them meet through a slightly open door. This will allow them to sniff and smell each other much closer. This will create a bonding or a relationship between the old and the new cat. When all of these steps are done, maybe it is the right time to introduce both cats personally.
