How Much Chlorine Do You Need to Shock a Pool?

When talking about pool shocking, the first thing that comes to our mind is to raise the chlorine level to make sure that the water is safe for swimmers. Chlorination tablets are being used to facilitate the chlorination level. Shocking of the pool is very important every week because the water pool attracts algae and molds.

Pool shocking is not as simple as you think. You should determine exactly how much chlorine you need to add to the pool water. Exceeding the required amount for the water available may be hazardous to humans. Here are step by step techniques on how you can shock your pool by yourself:

1. Determine the chlorine shock you will be using. The 3 types of chlorine are all vital, but you need to know which of them you need so you will not spend a lot in buying something that you don’t need.

2. When you want to use calcium based shock since it’s cheaper than other types, you need to pre dissolved it from the store you purchased it. You need to pre-dissolved it so that it won’t cause bleaching in your pool tiles. It cannot be dissolved by the pool water. Once it’s liquefied, you just have to pour it within the pool water of 1lb. per one thousand gallons of water. Calcium based shock may result in hazy water. Make sure that no one will swim during the 8 hour crucial period. The best time to add this to your pool water is during night time. It should be stay in the water to make it very effective.

3. Although, Trichlor can be used for pool shocking, it is not recommended by most pool experts. The soluble fibers from this product can stain in the pool surface and may cause problems later on.

4. A dichloride product has a powerful effect on your pool water. It has no clouding effect and it can be dissolved faster than other products. You can swim 15 minutes after adding the solution to the pool water. This often used by households and public pools because, you don’t have to wait overnight or for a longer hours just to complete the cleaning process.

In choosing the best product for your particular needs, you need to make sure that you will only buy them from reputable pool cleaner suppliers. Although there are lots of shops nowadays that offers newer products for your specific needs, you cannot compromise on your family’s health. You need to make sure that the product you will use will make your pool clean and your family safe from harmful chemicals.
