Contact Lenses Care
By Jason Ladock | Low Vision | Unrated

If you can’t see clearly, you can have the ophthalmologist to check your eyes and prescribe you a pair of eye glasses or contact lenses to solve this problem. The wearing of contact lenses is now common and is the most preferred way to deal with this problem. The doctor would usually advise the proper way of caring for your contact lenses and these are just basic steps to keep your contact lenses in top form.

• Make it a habit to clean your contact lenses on a regular basis. Make sure to wash and clean your hands before removing your lenses. Gently remove one lens and rub it with a few drops of cleaning solution with your index finger. Then, place the lens case in a fresh solution. Repeat the same procedure with the second lens.

• Make sure to change the solution in your contact lens case each time that you use your contact lenses. Don’t reuse any old solution. In this way, they are kept clean and free from bacteria.

• Try to avoid getting water into your lenses. Remember to remove them when you take a shower, when you go swimming and when you wash your face. Remember that the only liquid allowed to touch your lenses is the contact solution prescribed for your lenses.

• Remember to remove your lenses before going to sleep. Wearing them overnight may result to further damage to your eyes.

• Make sure that you use prescribed eye drops to clean your lenses and to help maintain comfort in wearing them. Throw away cleaners and solutions if it is expired, so always check the expiration date when you buy a contact lens solution.

• Place your contact lens on their proper case and put them in table or counters so that they won’t fall to the floor, because if they do they would be harder to find. If your contact lenses fall on the floor, clean and rinse them with the solution.

• Be extra careful with your solution bottle. The tip of the bottle should not touch any surface including your eyes, contact lens and your fingers to avoid contamination.

• If you often feel an irritation when wearing your contact lenses, go to the doctor immediately for proper medical attention and to check your lenses as well.

Remember that contact lenses are should be prescribed by the doctor. The proper care and the right cleaning solutions are part of the prescription to keep your lenses in good shape. You would be taught how to properly insert your contact lenses into your eye and remove them from your eyes as well. In case you encounter this problem while removing your lens, it would be wise to remember to do the procedure instructed by your doctor. If your contact lens still sticks to the eye surface, apply a few drops of lubricating solution and wait for the lens to move back to position. Then, try to remove it again, this time for sure it would easily slide down by using your index finger.

Make it a conscious effort on your part to never rub your eyes while wearing contact lens because this would result to tearing and damage to your eyes.
