It’s the time of the year again when the trick or treaters come out and pumpkins invade our lives. It’s Halloween time. More than the candy and the giant squash, it’s what you wear that really makes each Halloween more memorable than the previous year But, how does one choose when there are literally hundreds of costumes to choose from? Choosing a Halloween Costume doesn’t have to be the end of the world. In fact, it can be fun and easy. There are different options and one has to find the perfect costume for the perfect Halloween.
Traditional: Sometimes, when you can’t seem to decide on your Halloween costume, its best to go the traditional way. There will be plenty of witch, pumpkin, angels, French maid outfits. However, as an individual it’s up to innovate and make the store bought costumes more original and designer. Take a witches outfit and bring up the hem line and add elaborate make up. Make yourself a sexy witch right out of Vogue. Spice up your pirate costume by adding accessories like beads, necklaces, earrings, hair extensions, and more. For children, you can opt to stick to the traditional as well. However, instead of spicing the costumes up, opt for changing the color of the costumes. The old ghost or the clown is always an easy option to create.
Inspired: Sometimes, we need inspiration from others to decide our Halloween costumes. This inspiration can come in the form of what friends wore last year to popular characters from animated movies. For kid, characters like Shrek and Cinderella are always the favorites and are easy to do even if you don’t want to invest in buying the costumes. They can be recreated using face paint and old clothes. Take old pictures out of your album and see what your parent or grandparents wore. You will always find some secret treasures that will make amazing costumes. Be the hippie from the 60’s or a 50’s girl fully equipped with a poodle skirt and a pony tail. Even costumes of various professions can be made and that would be perfect for both adults and kid alike. Sailors, nurses, doctors, pop stars. Anything can be turned into a good costume.
Easy: If you want a no frills and only thrills kind of costume, you can easily gather materials from around the house and create a costume. Take some bandages or gauze and wrap it around yourself and make yourself into a mummy. Be the Mother Nature and stick various leaves and flower petals all over you or your kid. Take cut out pictures of animals and stick them as well to complete the eco system. If you have tights lying around the house, along with a shirt, you can paint on them and make just about any animal that you desire, right from a leopard to a snake.
If all else comes to fail, there will be plenty of specialty costume shops that will be doing heavy business around this time of the year. Opt for one of them when you want to find a good costume easily. Be a super hero, Indian Princess or a ninja extraordinaire. Whatever you want you will be able to find it. Even if you don’t know what you want you can just ask the friendly sales person.
