Dog Diarrhea Cures
By Jonathan Pitts | Pets Health | Unrated

Dog diarrhea can be the cause of number of things. The dog diarrhea cures depend on the cause of diarrhea. When you take your dog to a vet it is important that you should take a sample of the stool for examination. The doctor can check the sample for bacteria and parasites. It is difficult to determine if the dog diarrhea is a result of food allergy or dietary intolerance.

Some of the causes of intolerance include:

• Reaction to something that is included in your dog’s diet such as tyramine, caffeine or chocolate.

• Deficiency of certain enzymes.

• Food that result in a chemical reaction.

• Eating spoiled food.

• Food poisoning.

• Consuming any foreign object.

The best way to cure the dog diarrhea is to bring about dietary changes. The aim of bringing about these changes is to help your dog absorb nutrients that he needs. Provide the dog with simple diet like fish, chicken or wheat. It is important to avoid lamb as most of the commercial dog foods contain this. Fish is one of the best available choices and can be a good replacement for lamb that can be a problem. Wheat gluten is also a good source of proteins. It also has a lot of properties that help in digestion.

You can also add psyllium grains to the diet. Psyllium forms a good source of soluble fiber that can absorb moisture. This is a good source in both diarrhea and constipation. It is suggested by most veterinarians that the dog should initially be kept on a low fiber diet and gradually the fiber level should be increased. Adding small quantities of psyllium seeds and carrots will surely suffice the fiber requirements. If the dog is suffering from a bacterial problem then rice should be an important part of the diet, as it has digestible starch that works well in such conditions.

Since the case of diarrhea is associated with the inability to absorb nutrients the most common symptom is weight loss. The coat of the dog becomes dull and loses its shine and the dog gets fatigued easily. To help the dog retain its energy you can supply higher quantities of fat in the diet. Fat increases the absorption and also the energy but can lead to severe digestive problems also. If the dog is losing weight then you probably need to provide lots of fat in the diet.

For a simple elimination diet, have one carbohydrate like corn, rice, potato or tapioca. Once the dog shows improvement then you can provide new sources of proteins to the diet every week. You can also provide probiotics and prebiotics in the diet of the dog. There are many veterinarians that suggest an elimination diet for the dogs if they are suffering from irritable bowel syndrome. There are also a number of natural medicines that you can try for your pet.
