A baby shower party is conducted before the birth of a newborn. Generally, it is a simple get together of family and friends where the to-be-mom is honored. The formal gathering generally starts with a little food and picks up excitement as the gifts are revealed.
You can make this party more exciting by organizing simple games which everybody can participate. This way, you would ensure that people who are not familiar with each other start interacting. You would be sure enough to find your guests bonding well with informal games. This would also add on to the fond memories of the function.
Make sure that the games can be played by all the guests and also the to-be-mom and it does not cause any embarrassment to the people as some of them would be meeting each other for the first time. For example, games which tend to provoke teasing each other or laughing at somebody should be avoided as guests would start feeling uncomfortable.
In addition, decide beforehand whether you would be distributing any prizes for the winners. These need not be expensive. It can just add on to the list of special memories. Small candles, decorative bags or boxes, candy bars, motivational flash cards, key chains, magnets that can be placed on the fridge are some of the suggested simple ideas.
The following are some of the simple games that are enjoyable in the baby shower party:
Make small cards with alphabets from A to Z. People need to pick these cards and suggest a baby name and some baby item starting with the alphabet.
While designing invitations, mention to the guests to bring one of their baby pictures. You can just pin them on a board and have fun identifying who is who. The guests can also share when this photo was taken if they aware of it.
Memory game: Assemble some of the baby items on a table and ask the guests to view it for some time. Close it and ask them to write what they saw. The person who writes most of the items right is the winner.
Guessing game: Ask the guests to write any expected gift that they think that the mother would receive in this party. This should be different from what they have brought. This would add a lot of excitement to the gift opening session.
Mystery game: Take small pouches, fill it with baby items and seal it. The items can be very simple and small like nail clippers, diaper pins, hair bows, and the like, the guests have to touch the pouch and guess what is inside the bag. If they are right, they win the gift.
Fill small jars with some baby food and pass it on to the guests. Ask them to identify the flavor. Not only will your guests taste the delicious food, they would enjoy this guessing game too!
Ask each guest to share a witty experience that they have seen with any baby in their life. This could be a hilarious session.
