Pet owners are dreaded of taking their cat on a veterinarian. Sickness created by motion can cause vomiting, nausea and long hours of howling can be very stressful for owners and to their pet. Preventing this motion sickness that is common on cats may require the help of your local veterinary doctor. You can lessen the effect of motion sickness to your cat if you will take some basic step on how to combat this sickness. Discover why this motion sickness occur and how can it be avoided.
• One of the main causes of this motion sickness is the fear of your cat. Most animals may associate travel in a regular vet visit. This can sense some fear to your pet. Pets are normally happier and active at their normal environment at home. Placing your cat in a carrier may cause some anxiety response in your cat. Calming your cat during a trip is a very hard thing to do especially if you are driving in a car together with your cat. Anxiety of most animals is sometimes mistaken as a motion sickness. Gentle pats and words can calm your cat’s anxiety. Repetition of this action can lessen their worry about the trip. You can also prepare your cat by sitting them on your car few days before the trip. This may help the cat to be aware of the environment inside the car.
• Movement of the car while running can create the motion sickness of the cat. Motion sickness may originate on the balance center of the inner ear. Your cat may experience vomiting and diarrhea, it can be eliminated by exposing the cat to an increased movement over time. Other may require a vet intervention to solve the problem.
• Owners should exercise extra patience and understanding when their cat is exhibiting motion sickness while in the middle of a happy trip. Avoid being angry with your pet, besides they don’t want to accompany you either. Create the most comfortable environment for them inside the vehicle. Include their favorite familiar towel or toy to make them at ease with the surroundings. You can place your cat’s carrier on the back seat, facing forward so your cat can see where you are going.
• Generally, humans calm their motion sickness by looking at the horizon this may also apply with your cat. In addition to that, the center of the car has the less movement. Make sure that your cat is much secured inside their carrier. You can open the cars window to allow some fresh air. Traveling your cat without giving them any food before the trip can also helps in preventing motion sickness.
• If your cat cannot handle motion sickness and you already done all necessary actions, better consult with your vet to find the perfect solution. Medications are use to help the cat to eliminate motion sickness. Humans especially dogs respond well on antihistamine drug to fight motion sickness. Help your cats if you want to have a peaceful travel with them.
