You can always have a good time this Halloween with your pets. You can do this without sacrificing their safety in order to have fun. Veterinarians are offering some tips for pet owners to enjoy the treat or trick as well as to ensure the safety of their pets.
1. A bowl of candies and chocolate are only for Halloween trick or treat kids and not for your dogs. All kind of chocolates whether it is white, dark or just plain chocolate is dangerous for your dog’s and cat’s health. Foil and candy wrappers are very hazardous when swallowed accidentally. This may cause vomiting and stomach pain to your cats and dogs. If your pet does accidentally swallowed any harmful materials call a veterinary as quickly as possible. You can also call the Animal poison Control center number 1-888-426-4435.
2. Famous Halloween decorations such as pumpkins and corns are not as toxic as chocolates but they can also cause some stomach upset for your animals. If large pieces of this food are being swallowed, it can also cause stomach blockage. You can avoid these things from happening by being cautious and responsible while having fun.
3. Some of your Halloween decorations may have wires and electric cords on the floor. Make sure that this cord are tapped and covered securely to prevent your pet from chewing them. Your pet might accidentally get an electric shock if these wires are not place properly.
4. Your cat and dogs might jump up your candles and oils around the house. To prevent this from happening make sure those are all in their right places away from your pets. Pets may always have a sense of curiosity for everything unfamiliar. These candles can cause fire around the house if not taken care properly.
5. It is nice to dress up your pets during the Halloween for as long as they feel comfortable and the costumes are safe. Make sure that costumes you will let them wear do not restrict their movement. If the dress is too tight they might have difficulty in breathing normally. For some animals wearing costumes can be very stressful.
6. Your dogs and cats may not like the thought of having too many people around, it is much better if they stay in the house during the peak hours of trick or treat. Presence of strangers and scary people can add stress to your pets.
7. Make sure that your pets always wear an identification tag. This can help find your pet easily if they are accidentally got loss while you are both in the middle of a trick or treat. This will increase the chances for them to return safely.
8. Don’t let your black cats hang around outside during Halloween as they may be a subject for Halloween pranksters. Keep them inside your home for their safety.
9. You can help your dogs and cats become more peaceful during this time by putting some cotton balls in their ears. This will help them avoid too much noise that can add stress into their peaceful life.
