Bike Safety for Kids

Kids riding in bikes should take precautionary measures to avoid dangers. There are thousands of kids being admitted in the emergency room because of bicycle hazards. Following safety rules on biking may prevent accidents form happening to your kids. Every kid would love to learn how to ride a bike even at a very early age. Parents tend to buy their child a bike as early as one to two years old. There are some important things you should know to avoid accidents:

• One of the very important tools to have is a headgear. This will protect your child’s head from bumping to any hard objects when they loss their balance. This is the basic rule when biking, not only to children but also to adults. A good safety helmets indicate a sticker that it follows the government safety standard for bike helmets. You do not have to worry too much about your kid’s welfare whenever they are out of your sight.

• It is important to maintain your child’s bike in good condition. Always remember to inflate your bike’s child properly before letting them play with it. A tire that is not properly inflated can be very dangerous for your child. Inflated tires may cause your child to loss their balance while riding on the bike. Check the bike’s brake if it is functioning the way it should.

• Be very observant while your child is playing with their bike. Do not let your child to ride bike on their own without supervision. Set some boundaries for your child. Limit places that are too risky to go on biking. Explain to your kids the negative effect of running their bike too fast. Set some guideline and rules for them to follow. This will make them more safe and responsible for their safety.

• Take time to teach your kids about uneven roads and unsafe surfaces. Teach your child about road awareness to help them avoid accidents. Tell your kids to avoid manholes, cracks, humps, and other hazards on the road.

• Teach your kids about direction. They should be familiar with road intersection. Make your kids aware of other vehicles that might cause them some accidents. Teach them to always look both sideways before passing some intersections. Never think that an intersection is always safe, so do not forget to stop, look and observe first.

• Always be aware with other cars and vehicles around the place. Teach your kid to follow single file and go along with the flow of the traffic. As basic rules according to Safe kids worldwide, always use hand signals even without other cars around.

Practice your child to bike in a safe environment. There are places where it is very safe to bike like parks and open field where there are no cars for them to lookout. Safety cones are also useful for your child to practice safety turns. Always keep in mind the safety of your child even when they are just playing outside.
