People often wonder what glyconutrients mean. This term is frequently used in the context of bodybuilding. It refers to particular sugars and compounds that are required by the body to help it function properly. All the compounds belonging to this category of foods have their separate and significant roles in the body. The body is capable of producing glyconutrients but the quantity is not sufficient enough to meet the requirements, hence they need to be supplied in the diet. These are just claims that havent been proved. However, it has been seen that supplementing the diet with glyconutrients has brought about a better health in bodybuilders.
The most important among them is glucose. It is the main source of providing energy to the body to let the body function in a proper manner. Glucose is also produced to provide other important compounds that are used as a source of energy and also used for producing other important substances. The supply of glucose should be such that it is continuously absorbed through the bloodstream throughout the day. To maintain an even flow of glucose in the body, you need to consume foods that are low in glycemic content. Such foods include peas, bread, beans, full-corn cereals and in some cases potatoes and sweet fruits. These foods have starch that is broken slowly all through the day.
The glyconutrients have a number of other responsibilities in the body. The synthesis of these nutrients from glucose is very slow and deficiency might set in if the compounds are not available in the diet. The other glyconutrients include xylose, fucose, mannose, N-acetylneuraminic, N-acetylgalactosamine acid and N-acetylglucosamine acid. Some of the functions of glyconutrients in the body include:
These substances are responsible for the regulation of tissue growth and development of the maturing organs. They also make the repair of the organs easy after an injury or when affected by a disease.
These nutrients are used by the central nervous system and also the organs that are used for sensing light through the retina in the eyes.
The immune system also makes use of glyconutrients to take control of the internal functions and in the identification of foreign bodies that need to be destroyed.
They form one of the most important structures of intracellular connections like cartilage, tendons and connective tissues. N-glucosamine is responsible for making this structure.
Xylose and mannose prevent the microorganisms from attaching themselves to the body organs and facilitates the washing of viruses, bacteria and fungi from the body.
Each glyconutrients have their specific tasks to perform and the lack of these leads to problems in the different body organs. These problems are seen in case of diseases and also in many other cases hence hampering the repair of body injuries. The deficiency of glyconutrients is often linked to diseases and infections. These include heart problems, rheumatic diseases, allergies, asthma, cancer and stroke. To increase the intake of glyconutrients you should consume lots of fresh vegetables like eggplants, turnips, cabbage, mushrooms, aloe vera and tomatoes. Also, include fruits like gooseberries, black currant and red currants.
