The importance of grapefruit in losing weight has put forth many varieties of grape fruit diets. Basically, any grapefruit diet is low in calories and carbohydrates and includes a glass of grapefruit juice. As you are losing weight, there will also be considerably fluid loss from the body. To compensate that, it is essential that you consume about eight glasses of water regularly to prevent the problem of dehydration. Rule of any grapefruit diet is to have only three meals a day and they can be as large as you want. You can also consume as much meat as you want. You can eat salads, fruits and vegetables. But, you should not have bread, potatoes and desserts that are rich in calories. It is essential to follow the same diet for a period of twelve days.

As the amount of calories is very less down to 800 calories, the body needs are hardly met and there is a chance for you to develop dizziness and other health problems. It is also not recommended to have more amount of meat as they contribute to great amount of bad cholesterol which is not good for health and may lead to heart related problems.

Another ill effect is that if you are on medications you should check with your doctor if these medications are reactive to grapefruit juice or else you may develop adverse reactions which sometimes could be life threatening. You cannot practice regular exercise as you are on a very low calorie diet. The diet also lacks in major nutrients such as minerals and fiber and the body needs may not be met leading to health problems.
