Uterine fibroids are one of the most common diseases occurring in women. There are different options depending on the symptoms. According to health experts, the actual causes of fibroids are still unknown, but hormones, progesterone and estrogen have shown to make them grow rapidly. Anything you can do to help them shrink naturally will be very helpful to you, especially with the shrinking process of the fibroids. Most women who have it are not aware of it, unless some signs become visible. Some of the most common symptoms are the following:
• Long menstrual period and abdominal pressure
• Painful back
• Pain when having intercourse
• Bloated feeling
• Urinary pressure
If you don’t feel any of the following symptoms but you know you have fibroids, you may ask your doctor for any relevant remedy to shrink them. Your doctor will tell you what the best for your condition is. If you are experiencing similar symptoms from the list, you may tell your doctor about the discomfort you are experiencing. Most of the time, they suggest hormone therapy to reduce the size of the fibroids. You don’t have to worry that fibroids can be cancerous because it rarely happens. Some women are prone to having fibroids due to the following reasons:
1. Between ages 30-40 women are prone of having it.
3. African-American women are more prone that white women.
4. Those women who don’t have any children nor had last children at a young age.
5. Had a family history of fibroids.
Fibroids can rarely be detected, unless you go through a routine gynecological test. These are some of the processes doctors do to check if you have fibroids:
• Check the size of the womb by means of internal examination. Enlarged womb may mean you have fibroids that are enlarged.
• Ultrasound can be one way to determine if you have fibroids.
• MRI or magnetic resonance imaging is also another way to know if you have fibroids.
If you have mild fibroids, there is no treatment that should be given to you; otherwise, you need to ask your doctor about it so you will be aware of variations when it comes to fibroids treatment. There is no medicine available to treat fibroids; one of the most common methods of dealing with it is through hormone replacement therapy. There are also other remedies which are called non-surgical options. These are composed of uterine embolisation and endometrial ablation. These two will be performed using local anesthesia. You can still get pregnant after going through the process.
On the other hand, a surgery can also be an option. It is called myomectomy and hysterectomy. These two can be done through cuts, the same as what pregnant women have when they go through cesarean operation. The first is an abdominal cut while the other one is through the vagina. These can be done if the women still wants to get pregnant in the future. Don’t worry if you have fibroids, these can be cured easily, especially now that the world is heading on the new technology.
