Getting Relief From Menstrual Cramps

Cramps are a natural part of the menstrual cycle. These result from the hormonal fluctuation that causes the contraction of the uterus. The normal menstrual cramp is called as primary dysmenorrhea. The increase in the prostaglandins and the fluctuation of the hormones results in menstrual cramps. If the pain is excessive along with cramps, then it is called as secondary dysmenorrhea. There are a number of medications that are available for getting relief from the pain caused by menstrual cramps.

One of the best-known menstrual cramp solutions is Dong Quai. It works best for such situations. It is available in the market in the form of supplement, tea or even extracts, and works by regulating the hormones. Having this on a regular basis lessens the intensity of cramps. There are many women who also benefit from pickle juice. If there is nothing available around then pickle juice is one of the best remedies for alleviating the menstrual cramps. It works quickly and gives instant relief.

Beer is considered as a natural muscle relaxant and also gives immediate relief from the pain. You can try having a can of beer the next time you are affected by menstrual cramps. Peppermint tea also serves as a mild muscle relaxant and relieves menstrual cramps. Having a cup of tea with grated ginger is effective in reducing the cramps. Add a teaspoon of grated ginger to a cup of hot tea for instant relief from cramps. Valerian root is also a good option for getting relief from the pain. The valerian root is basically used as a sleeping aid, but is also useful in controlling cramps. The evening primrose oil is another good remedy for reducing the incidence of cramps. It contains large amounts of GLA that is an essential fatty acid and is a good agent for reducing the menstrual cramps.

It is important to decide the strength of the menstrual cramp. If you are suffering from a slight pain, then you will require a different type of menstrual cramp relief, as compared to people who have severe menstrual cramps. Consider the pain that you are suffering from, then decide on the type of cramp relief that you want. You can start with having over the counter medicines too, apart from the home remedies that have been mentioned above. The ordinary menstrual cramps can be treated by taking normal drugs like Midol or Advil.

Applying warm compress to the area helps relieve the menstrual cramp and can also be a great relief from the pain. If you do not suffer from extreme cramps, then this can be a very nice method of relieving pain. If the condition is severe, then it is better to take advice from your doctor so that you can be put on the right medications. There are many doctors who might prescribe stronger pain relief medications or other ways of getting relief from the cramps.
