Sleeping pills are the most widely used drugs in the world. We all know that sleeping pills induces sleep. It appears normal for a sleep deprived individual to bank upon sleeping pills to take care of his/her disturbed sleep pattern. From the medical point of view, sleeping pills arenít good for our health. However, doctors might prescribe them to patients so that their patients can relax. Itís usually prescribed during incidents when unbearable pain is involved in the medication process. Overall, sleeping pills are safe as long as one follows the prescribed directions, which usually involves short term usage.

Those resorting to over-the counter sleeping pills for a prolonged period of time without any formal prescriptions can invite hazardous health ailments into their lives. What one should really know over here is that sleeping pills can fetch one around 6 to 8 hours of sleep. But, that doesnít imply that one should consider overdose of sleeping pills to generate more sleep. Some of the common health hazards involved with the overdose of sleeping pills include dry mouth, fatigue, dizziness, and memory problems.

Besides this, individuals are also seen complaining about allergic symptoms due to extended use of sleeping pills. The common allergic reactions include difficulty in breathing, rashes, hives and body swelling. Most of these symptoms would demand medical attention for cure. Apart from these symptoms, the victim may also suffer from frequent headache and irritability.

The worst part is that sleeping pills can also result into drug dependency. Remember, sleeping pills works best only as a short term remedy. They shouldnít be considered as a permanent fixture to deal with any health problem. Those who develop drug dependency actually end up falling prey to a host of unwanted symptoms as discussed earlier. What most people out there fail to realize is that sleeping pills do not cure the underlying cause of the problem. For instance, if you are suffering from deprived sleep due to insomnia or stress, sleeping pills will do no good to cure insomnia or stress.

Sleeping pills drug overdose has become very common these days. Because our body gets used to the tolerance level, we tend to force our body to consume more than the recommended pills to get good sleep. As a result, we end up inviting host of health problems into our lives. In some cases, individuals develop a tolerance level very quickly, and they end up consuming more pills than the recommended dosage in a very short span of time. One of the negative shades involved with drug overdose is decreased lung capacity due to sleep apnea and other ailments.

If you are suffering from insomnia or any other sleep related issue, then itís in your best interest to fight the underlying cause of the problem, rather than making sleeping pills an integral part of your life. After all, sleeping pills are just a temporary solution to a permanent problem. Itís advisable to weigh the pros and cons of sleeping pills before considering them. Taking healthcare for granted is one of the worst mistakes to commit because it can backfire!

    To use the word "sleeping pills" in such a generic way makes this article worth than useless. It would be very helpful to know what types of sleeping pills, OTC vs prescribed for example.
