There is no medical condition that does have not a home remedy solution to prevent it, treat it or cure it. There are a large number of home remedies for nail fungus, which are an alternative for people who want to try other alternatives rather than medications with possible side effects. This is a brief overview of those remedies.
Washing Your Hands
This is the simplest and easiest remedy to prevent fungal infection and to avoid fungi from spreading from your feet to your hands or vice verse. Every time you inspect your fungal infection or apply a treatment on the infected area, wash your hands thoroughly and immediately after you are done.
Vicks Vapor Rubs
Applying Vicks gently, twice a day on your toenails or fingernails, is said to improve the condition amazingly over time. In fact, many people say that generously rubbing starting from a non-infected area toward the nail fungus zone, is the best way to cure the infection and regain the softness of the surrounding skin.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Soak your nails for 15 minutes a day in a basin with half-natural apple cider vinegar and half-warm water. Because fungi needs acidity on infected skin to develop, apple cider vinegar helps restore the proper pH balance of the skin, improving its resistance to fungal infections.
Dry Your Feet And Toes
Fungal infections develop quickly in warm, wet or moist conditions. If you are already suffering from nail fungus, never ever leave your fingernails or toenails wet. With the aid of a hair dryer set on low heat, dry your nails thoroughly including the space between the toes.
Pure Oregano Essential Oil
This is an antibacterial, antiseptic, antiviral, anti parasitical, analgesic and anti fungal oil, which properties are highly appreciated among home remedies for nail fungus. However, use it with caution, no more than 3 weeks to avoid irritation. The recommended dosage is 2 drops of essential oil per teaspoon of pure olive carrier oil applied on the infected zone.
This essential oil reduces the absorption of iron, so pregnant women should not use it, and neither should children under 5 years old. Never use essential oils for cooking and do not touch your mucous membranes or apply near your eyes. The results of vinegars and essential oils are often seen after 6 months for fingernails and nearly 12 months for toenails.
Snipping nails short and keeping the dead skin smoothed away helps to prevent the development and spread of fungal infections.
