Graying of hair is not an unusual thing to happen. The age when graying starts depends on one's genetic inheritance.
Aging is often a reason that causes the hair to turn grayish. But premature graying of hair is a condition that demands the need to pay attention to the root cause. Nonetheless, graying of hair is a normal part of the aging process unless there is an underlying medical condition that is causing the lack of pigmentation.
There are certain medical conditions that can cause graying of hair.
These conditions are extremely rare and present themselves in less than one percent of the population but they do exist. The main symptom of this disease is the lack of regular thicker hair being allowed to grow. In turn, the thinner, grey hairs then have a chance to grow sooner and more rapidly than normal. The transformation is quick but it is not overnight.
Grey hair, gives the indication of improper protein synthesis.
The pigment melanin is responsible for the change of hair colors. Early graying of the hair is basically hereditary, and we can inherit it from one of our parents or grandparents. Grey hair can also be influenced by stress. A person experiencing a prolonged period of stress and anxiety may notice, over a period of time, white hairs gradually appearing. Malnutrition, worry, shock, deep sorrow, tension and other similar conditions may also slow down the production of melanin resulting in grey hair.
Causes of Hair Graying:
Persons suffering from chronic cold and sinusitis and those who use warm water for washing their hair are more likely to be victims of this condition.
A faulty diet and mental worries are the two primary causes of premature graying of hair.
Lack of some of the B vitamins, iron, copper, and iodine in the daily diet is said to be a contributory factor.
Heredity is also a predisposing factor.
Other causes of premature graying of hair are an unclean condition of the scalp, drying it with an electric dryer, and use of hair dyes.
Symptoms of Hair Graying:
The main symptom of graying of hair is the lack of regular thicker hair being allowed to grow. Loss of hair color before the age of 35 is termed premature graying.
Treatment and Prevention:
The role of proper diet in preventing and arresting premature graying of hair is very important. Eating a lot of fruits and vegetables is absolutely essential to facilitate the supply of essential vitamins and minerals.
Nourishment and proper grooming is very important to keep the hair texture, growth, shin and luster in a good condition. Therefore use a shampoo and conditioner that suits your hair type. For daily washes, use a shampoo that is mild, gentle and moisturizing.
Don't use too much conditioner or else it makes hair greasy.
Daily massage your hair with your fingertips; it helps proper blood circulation in the scalp.
Carrots are especially useful in furnishing fresh blood and maintaining the health of the hair.
