Smoking has an overwhelming amount of scientific evidence against it. It is just impossible for a smoker to honestly believe that smoking is good for the quality and length of their life. For starters, let's discuss some staggering reasons from the US Surgeon General's Report:
12 hours after quitting: The carbon monoxide level in your blood drops to normal.
2 weeks to 3 months after quitting: Your circulation improves and your lung function increases.
1 to 9 months after quitting: Coughing and shortness of breath decrease; cilia (tiny hair-like structures that move mucus out of the lungs) regain normal function in the lungs, increasing the ability to handle mucus, clean the lungs, and reduce the risk of infection.
1 year after quitting: The excess risk of coronary heart disease is half that of a smoker's.
5 years after quitting: Your stroke risk is reduced to that of a nonsmoker 5 to 15 years after quitting.
10 years after quitting: The lung cancer death rate is about half that of a continuing smoker's. The risk of cancer of the mouth, throat, esophagus, bladder, cervix, and pancreas decrease.
15 years after quitting: The risk of coronary heart disease is that of a non-smoker's.
Still not enough reason to quit? How about 7 more:
Reduces Halitosis - You can expect to have a lot better smelling breath.
Whiter Teeth - Cigarettes stain teeth and quitting will help them get whiter.
Better Hygiene - Your clothes and hair will begin to smell better without bad odors.
Eliminate Yellowish Skin - Your fingernails and fingers will lose the yellowish tinge on them.
Better Tasting Food - Expect your taste buds to really improve and cause everything to taste better.
Better Sense of Smell - You will notice the ability to smell odors that you couldn't before.
Increased Stamina - Your level of stamina will be through the roof and you will be able to do everyday activities and light exercise without running out of breath.
Believe it or not, there are even more than 14 reasons to quit smoking.
