Mouth yeast infection or oral thrush as it is commonly known can be a very annoying and uncomfortable problem. The infection is caused by the Candida Albicans yeast that lives in all of our mouths almost from birth. It only starts causing problems when the harmless yeast is allowed to mutate because something has caused your natural defenses to be compromised. This article goes into more detail on the causes and natural cures.
Mouth yeast infections usually affect one of the following people...
Individuals who have difficulty in keeping their mouth clean
People who wear dentures, or more so, if they're ill-fitting dentures
People with diabetes
People who take prescription steroids
People who have a history of antibiotics use
People who take medications that cause a dry mouth are also more likely to get an outbreak of oral thrush
People with weakened immune systems are open to many infections and oral thrush is one of them
White spots on the tongue are usually the first sign of Candida overgrowth in the mouth. When these are wiped off, the skin underneath is usually red and raw. If you wear dentures then the infected area will usually be a red patch underneath the denture. Mouth Candida is usually painless but can cause discomfort in extreme cases.
Corners of the lips can get infected, and this is also known as angular cheilitis or angular stomatitis.
Before you can successfully treat your fungal mouth infection you need to discover the cause. Once this is done the chances of a cure are more likely.
Easy to use home remedies for mouth thrush are...
A mouthwash made with a few tablespoons of water with a couple of drops of tea tree oil. Just wash the mouth out like you normally would with a dental mouth wash, and then rinse thoroughly. Make sure you don't ingest any of the mouthwash as tea tree oil is toxic. It is safe to use however providing you use it correctly.
Another home cure for a mouth yeast infection is live, natural, sugar free yogurt. The bacteria in live yogurt live naturally in your mouth, and mouth thrush means your friendly bacterial levels are low. Just hold the yogurt in your mouth for about 5 minutes, and you can do this 2 or 3 times a day.
If your symptoms persist or get worse then it's a good idea to go back to your doctor.
