Home Remedies for Stress Reduction

With stress levels increasing by the day it has become mandatory for everyone to indulge in some amount of stress management. While mild to moderate stress levels do not require you to consult a physician, managing tension levels at home can prevent break downs and burn outs.

There are some simple things that you can do while sitting at home that can help in coping with stress.

Positive Thinking

In a large number of cases where stress shoots manageable levels, it has been noticed that the stressor is more anticipated than real. These are situations where one fears some impending situation and feels tense or stressed out due to perceived notions of impending danger or threat. On the other hand, there are various situations that some people consider stressful while others don’t. This is mainly due to the fact that each individual grows up under different societal structures and familial situations. This observation brings us to the conclusion that events in themselves are seldom ‘good’ or ‘bad’ but it the manner in which you think that makes them so.

Therefore the very basic step towards stress reduction is to try and change the way in which you think. Look at the positive side of things (and yes, there is a positive side to all situations, if only we think hard enough to identify it). Accept yourself as you are and try and do the best you can. Don’t get into meaningless comparison with others and start thinking of yourself as ‘loser’.

Aromatherapy

Inhaling soothing scents and fragrances can calm your nerves significantly. To start using aromatherapy, choose an essential oil to start with. Oils of geranium, lavender, peppermint, rosemary, lemon, rose, sandalwood and eucalyptus provide a soothing feeling. To adopt aromatherapy you could use a diffuser (something that is easily available the market today, thanks to the popularity of aromatherapy across the world) or a spray. You can even add a few drops on the essential oil of your choice on to a tissue or on a kerchief that you carry around. Some people add a few drops of essential oil in almond oil and clean their working space and table with the same. This leaves a lingering fragrance in the air that is relaxing.

Stress Relief Products

With the increase in stress that people are experiencing the world over, there are various products and services that have flooded the market that help in stress relief. Products like stress balls and kick boxing kits can easily be found in the market today. Other stress relief services offered these days include Ayurvedic massages, floatation stress relief and others.

Herbal Stress Relief

Herbal remedies have taken the world by storm. The benefits of herbal remedies are being understood and people are becoming more aware about the side effects that conventional medication causes. Herbal remedies like kava kava, St. John’s Wort, Valerian root, ashwagandha, Siberian ginseng, chamomile tea, catnip and lemon balm can be taken without any worries about side effects. However, it is important that if you are already on some conventional medicines like antidepressants, stimulants or suffer from some physical ailments, you should consult a trained herbologist before taking them.
