Are You Really Ready to Stop Smoking?

Sixty-six percent of all smokers think about quitting smoking, yet of all those who try each year, only 7% succeed. These statistics can be depressing, but they don’t have to be. The smokers that quit each year were those who were really ready to quit for good and you could be one of those people. There are several determining factors that enable you to be one of the successful quitters. Take this test to see if you are really ready to quit smoking and if you will be successful.

1. Do you have a strong desire to quit?

2. Do you have the confidence in yourself to succeed?

3. Do you know how to fight off the urge to smoke?

4. Do you know what causes you to light up?

5. Are you really ready to quit?

If you answered yes to these five questions, you are ready to stop smoking forever. Let’s look briefly at each of these questions.

1. Do you have a strong desire to quit? Your desire has to be strong and has to come from within yourself – not from someone else in your life.

2. Do you have the confidence in yourself to succeed? You must have the confidence in yourself before you start. If you think you will fail – you will.

3. Do you know how to fight off the urge to smoke? What is your "game plan" when an urge hits you? Know ahead of time what you are going to do – chew gum, chew on a toothpick etc. Whatever helps you.

4. Do you know what causes you to light up? Know what causes you to light up – boredom, stress etc. and have a plan to replace the trigger with something else.

5. Are you really ready to quit? No matter what your reasons or how much you prepare, if deep, down inside, you aren’t really ready to quit, you won’t be successful. This has to be something you truly want to give up.

Think about these questions and answer them honestly. Quitting smoking is totally up to you. It’s something that only you can do for yourself. Review these questions, prepare yourself, and take action. Before you know it, you will be on the road to becoming a non-smoker.
