The toughest day for a pet owner is the day when he has to get his pet euthanized. It is without doubt the most difficult day of your life as you have to bid goodbye to your pet, your best friend. There are various ways you can prepare yourself for this day.
1. If you feel that the life of your pet is coming to an end and she is not keeping well, you can seek an immediate appointment with your veterinarian. If your dog or cat or rabbit is in pain, do not waste time and rush to the vet immediately. Take the help of the vet and prepare a time when to put her to sleep based on the symptoms of your pet.
2. Work out the options with your vet regarding the time after your pet has been put off to sleep and when is the perfect time to bury your pet. You can also ask your vet if you can save the ashes of your pet in an urn. You need to finalize these issues.
3. Prepare her burial spot in advance if you have decided to bury your family pet. You can carve the name of your pet on the burial stone and place it on the burial spot. If you wish to preserve the ashes select the place in your home where you wish to keep the urn.
4. Once you have decided on the process try to accept it as a natural and the best outcome for your pet rather than having him suffer the pain and stress. Do not postpone the process as the longer the delay it would be more difficult for you to accept the truth.
5. Collect all things attached with your pet and create a scrapbook and store them as memorabilia.
6. Spend more time with your pet, take a walk with him, play his favourite game or simply talk to him. Fill your days and his last days with happiness and joy.
These simple steps will help you prepare for the grieving process and make your tough decision easy.
