How to Avoid Food With Pesticide


Are you aware that fruits and vegetables contain pesticides which can actually harm our body? We always knew that we should load ourselves with greens to make us strong and fight infections? But what if the healthy foods become unhealthy because of interventions of man? Are there sensible choices left for us to live safer and healthier lives?

This is the sad truth. Because of the search for continuous improvement in the field of food and technology, safety becomes an issue.

There are plenty of pesticides available in the market today that are widely consume to extend the shelf life or control pests among vegetables and fruits. To name a few: there are insecticides to control insect; herbicides to prevent the growth of feeds; fungicides to control molds and fungus and rodenticides to shy away the rodents.

What are the effects of pesticides to mankind?

Unfortunately, the children are mostly affected by the use of pesticides. Children are basically growing, their immune system are not yet develop to resist infections. It also blocks the absorption of important nutrients that is essential for their growth and development.

Exposure to pesticides is also thought of as one of the risk factors associated with condition such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s and cancer.

Here are some ways to limit our exposure to pesticides and minimize its effects in our lives:

1. Select carefully the fresh fruits and vegetables available in the market. Wash and scrub thoroughly the food items. Rubbing fruits and vegetables produce friction and abrasive effect that will somehow remove the pesticides used. Do not use soap, just running water will do.

2. Peel and trim. It is advisable not to eat the skin of fruits such as apple or guava, because you are completely clueless of how many pesticide residues is present in it. Though nutrients are richly found on the skin, but the presence of pesticides negates its purpose. Peel fresh vegetables and fruits to lessen the dirt, pesticides and microorganisms into it. Trim the fat in the meat and skin in the chicken, because it is believed that pesticide residue collects into it. You are actually hitting two birds with this; you get lesser cholesterol and minimize the pesticides as well.

3. Cook the food if you must. The application of heat may kill some pesticides that are not removed by simple washing.

4. Eat a variety of foods every day. Variety and balance of daily intake is the key for a healthy diet. In addition, it also minimizes your exposure to a single pesticide.

5. Consider buying foods that are grown by organic methods. Organic grown foods are foods grown and processed using no synthetic fertilizers or pesticides. These kinds of food items are now available in local grocery items or food shops.

6. Plant vegetables. If your time permits, why not start planting? Nothing beats fresh vegetables right in your own backyard.

Technology and safety must always go hand in hand to make our lives safer and more convenient. Safety should never be compromised.
