There are many anti-ageing treatments out there which use a vast range of different methods. How LED Lights Work to Stimulate Collagen
LED stands for ‘Light Emitting Diode’ and these can transmit specific light frequencies. This is similar to lasers, but to a lesser degree and is less damaging to the skin. The treatment thus involves the LEDs being aimed at the affected areas at a frequency which gradually encourages the cells to produce collagen and elastin. Each treatment will last roughly half an hour and most patients will require several visits.
There are two different types of LEDs, these being either red or blue. These will both stimulate collagen production, but the colour chosen will depend on the intention of the patient. Red LEDs will be used in order to treat wrinkles, rosaea and sun damage and this will be used every seven to ten days over a period of around six weeks. Blue LEDs however will be used for acne and treatment will occur three times a week for two weeks. Some studies also suggest that blue LEDs could also be useful for treating other conditions such as cancer. Light therapy in general is also used for a range of other treatments such as tanning, wound healing, mood and sleep therapy and more.
Caution: Light therapy should not be used by those with thyroid complaints or epilepsy. It is also best avoided by pregnant women and those who are photo allergic. Before beginning any medical treatment you should consult with a doctor.
