Fertility Test: One Sure Way to Ensure Pregnancy

A fertility test is one way to help ensure that your pregnancy efforts are set up on a foundation that is viable. When you can be sure that both partners are fully fertile any problems that you run into will be much more readily identifiable. A fertility test can not ensure that you will get pregnant and stay pregnant, but it the foundation to ensuring that you don’t need medical help in securing your fertility.

Fertility tests should be run on both partners if there is a problem or delay in getting pregnant. It is impossible to tell if there is a problem in this department unless you get both partners tested.

Fertility Tests for Men

Fertility tests for men are really just about identifying the sperm count and how viable those sperm are. A semen sample is taken and the sperm is analyzed for the number of sperm and how active they are. This test is one of the most accurate ways to help ensure a man’s fertility and his sperm’s ability to achieve penetration of an egg.

A low sperm count means that the delay in pregnancy could be due to the fact that there just aren’t enough of them to make the journey necessary. This is often a treatable condition, but increasing the sperm count can take time and many couples often look into alternative options.

A slow sperm count means that there are enough of them but that they aren’t active enough or strong enough to make the full journey to penetrate the egg. This condition is often treatable as well, but with varying success rates. Slow sperm makes it very difficult to get pregnant and can also indicate a need for alternative options.

Fertility Tests for Women

Fertility tests for women are a bit more intrusive but can help determine a woman’s viability for egg development, timeliness of the cycle, and the uterus’ ability to hold a pregnancy once it happens. These tests can be indicative of other problems as well if the couple is experiencing a great difficulty getting a pregnancy to take.

When a woman experiences infertility problems she has the option of taking medication as well as other options. Fertility drugs are known to increase a woman’s viability for pregnancy and can take at least 12 months to fully produce results.

Fertility Testing and Poor Results

Couples have different options when fertility tests show poor results. They can opt for initial treatment of the actual problem or they can go for more invasive options. Using the sperm and egg from the couple and forcing conception in a scientific setting is commonly called in vitro fertilization. This allows the conception process to take place and then the fertilized eggs are placed back into the uterus in an attempt to get one to take.

While this is an expensive procedure it is often worth the time and money in order to help encourage pregnancy, especially when testing shows the problem is in the sperm. If the egg can start developing, it has every chance to turn into a healthy pregnancy that is carried to term when a woman shows no sign of fertility problems. It is not, of course, a guarantee.

Donor Options

Donor options are less expensive. They include the use of either a donor egg or a sperm donor and allow the individual without the fertility problem to provide half of the DNA for the pregnancy. Many couples have a difficult time deciding whether or not to use this option as the individual with the fertility problem is not a DNA donor.

Donor programs are often not nearly as expensive as more intrusive options and can result in a pregnancy. For couples with limited time and budget options, this is usually the first method chosen to try to encourage a pregnancy.

Health Issues

Even when a health screening comes back clean there can still be underlying health issues that are interfering with the conception and term delivery of a baby. These issues can be stress or nutritional and most often are not found in traditional testing.

Stress is a high ranking cause of temporary infertility. Whether that stress is over the effort to get pregnant or it is caused by career pressure or family pressure stress produces hormones which can interfere with one’s ability to get pregnant. If you consider the beginnings of mankind and the dangers that were often present, long periods of stress signaled to the body that it was a poor time for conception. Whatever the situation was that was producing the stress had to be life and death oriented, which would have put the species at risk. This naturally occurring function now tends to increase our stress level rather than protect us from additional stress, but the basic function is still intact.

Many women find that when the stress minimizes they are suddenly able to get pregnant and maintain their pregnancy unexpectedly. This often happens around the time when they have started considering other options and are calming down about the initial stressor. For men, stress plays a role but typically not one that is quite as profound as it is in women.

Nutritional Issues

Nutritional issues can play a huge role in the ability to get pregnant as well. Nutritional screenings can help identify huge gaps and offer you a method of correction. When the body is repeatedly denied certain nutrients it will literally shut off some of the basic functions that it is ill prepared to perform, including procreation. This is a protective measure that the body offers.

Under such conditions the likelihood of providing a developing fetus with enough nutrients to thrive are slim and thus the body automatically rejects the attempts. When nutritional gaps are found and corrected, many women find that they can conceive and carry to term.

Alternative Therapies

Alternative therapies such as acupuncture, aroma therapy, and massage therapy have shown to help increase a woman’s ability to get pregnant. In many cases both individuals within the couple must participate. Sexual therapies are often helpful as well. Having intercourse with a goal can create a chore for the couple, and thus the workings of the brain are powerful enough to deter that goal. Pressure does not help under these circumstances and it is generally considered to the couple’s advantage to undergo some amount of counseling.

The mind is very powerful and can create the counterproductive hormones that it needs to prevent a pregnancy when there is too much pressure on the act itself. Alternative therapies can help improve the chances of getting pregnant in the face of normal fertility results with difficult conception periods.
